I have been doing a fair bit of thinking about the blog, and wanted to clue you all in on some changes.
I had intended to finish my “The End of Human Doctors” series before moving on to anything else, and I even let some really cool topics pass me by to maintain continuity. It also prevented me from doing much technical blogging, which I guess makes the blog more accessible, but reduces the utility as an education tool (which is definitely a goal for me). I’m not entirely sure why I felt like I had to do TEOHD back-to-back, but that was the groove my mind was stuck in.
Recently, some things happened that I needed to talk about. I’ve already posted a piece on some first thoughts about the ChestXray14 dataset from the NIH team, and a longer follow-up is incoming. That blogpost also touched on some issues around pre-printed papers and public peer review. I’m going to write more about this in the future, and I’m going to engage in a bit of public peer review very soon.
But since these happenings have broken the run of TEOHD, I have realised that my self-imposed rule wasn’t a good one. It slowed me down, and reduced the quality of my content. So I’m going to add some more variety to the blog. If a topic catches my eye and I think I can add something to the discussion, I will blog on it. I will occasionally write about important news in the community. I’ll try to write more pieces about technical concepts I find interesting, and I’ll even try to include code when it is worthwhile. I’ll still be maintaining the in-depth nature of the blog, and I doubt I will be much more successful than I have been keeping my posts shorter than three thousand words π
So there you go. A new plan for 2018. I will still be writing TEOHD, which is honestly getting pretty close to finished, but I have a few posts that have to come out first.
Thanks to everyone who has been reading, and I hope you all enjoy what I have planned next.
